Sabbath Messages > Sabbath Message: August 20, 2005 Good SabbathAugust 20, 2005 Perspective is the closest state of having eyes in the back of your head. Clarity is learning to see reality and imagine possibility. The night blots out many things, but not the imagination. I think of the space pioneers, humans until they soared above the realities they have thought were the limitations of the human frontier. Then they were aloft, looking down at earth, learning the perspective of how tiny our place is. When you look up at a hill, it is a mountain. When you look down from space, all melts into the oneness of what was limited before to the imagination. The science-fiction writers had to use their imaginations to invent the possibilities of what went beyond what they learned in school, but nothing is beyond imagination or aspiration. To aspire to reach for stars is the ignition for inventing what that could be like. To soar above the mountains is simply the mainstream of what joins science to fiction. We are marvelous creatures, we who have been created by God. We simplify complexities and make complex what is simple. We love, we hate, we think that we are grounded in pragmatism, but we long for that which we fantasize. We go to pray and then ask for forgiveness for our sins right after that. We pray for forgiveness from an invisible God whom only puny humans can bring to life and relevancy. A human soul is the candle of God, but only a human can light it, not an angel and not God. God knows our limitations but wisdom is the tool with "Nothing ever imagined is beyond our power O Lord Imagine and the world is.... Have a superb Sabbath, but always share it with those you love. sandy |
