Sabbath Messages > Sabbath Message: August 13, 2005 Good SabbathAugust 13, 2005 Imagine, a tour around the moon, possibly available by 2008. Feeling that there are 500 to 1000 people (nice round guess) who could afford to do this, the promoter will be selling tickets for a tiny $20 million a piece. I was thinking about making a reservation, but Franny thought about all the other things we could do with that money, like accumulating all the chocolate in the world (all dark), or redoing the closets in our home so that pants wouldn't fall when I closed the sliding door, or, or what? Of course the space of the capsule would be smaller than an overpriced condo in San Diego, like “lying in a bath room,” s a couple of spacemen remarked, who orbited Earth for 14 days in Gemini 7. A better invention would be to be able to mass transport all the bad drivers in California (or any other state) to the moon, and leave them there to practice courtesy-another miracle. Because of Franny's recent bout with illness, we had to cancel one trip back east, to celebrate Fran's closest friend's 50th anniversary. We were so sorry not be at this happy event happening this month, but August summer in Buffalo is for younger people than we, so our thoughts will be with Zelda and Marwin. One problem with growing old is that you lose so many friends and relatives and one has to be certain not to spend your time with memories rather than living each blessed day as it is awarded to you. Taking one day at a time is wise and filled with possibilities. You do not have to be young and physically strong to live each day fully; you do have to be aware of how to spend the time wisely, promoting happiness for others as well as yourself. Now that's a better idea than spending a few million on traveling in space. It is more important to explore our inner space, like one's mind and thoughts, then indulging in the adventure of space travel--one space is just as important as the other. Some sage said that if the world sat down and thought for ten minutes, there would be revolution--no doubt! Life's affirmation extends beyond the parameters of faith. It involves one's daily lifestyle, the way we relate to others and ourselves and our community. Truly, we measure our faith by the deeds we perform every day. A righteous person lives by his faith--never killing for it except to defend themselves from brutal tyranny. As I work on new communities, I try to help invent a better lifestyle, a quality of living that makes the best of all blessings, protects the environment while planting new trees, reaching out to the young so that they are made wiser than their years, learning to cultivate time so that it is spent well, deliberately involved with the betterment of how you found the community and earth itself. You can achieve nobility by caring for others, nurturing a community, assisting the poor, sensitizing the affluent, being color-blind so that prejudice is for history books rather than creating more frustration in modern life. We owe each other opportunity so that each can pursue fulfillment of mind and soul. I thank Thee God As Mothers and Dads of dead soldiers tolerate the hot Texas sun, let their leaders be more sensitive to their actions while they truly learn Thy messages of what can bring a collaboration among Buddha, Christ, Moses, and Islam for the good of the world rather than the memorizing of what passes for the truth. Make this Sabbath truly wonderful in your life, by joining hands with those you love and those who are waiting for your love. sandy |
