Sabbath Messages > Sabbath Message: March 19, 2005 Good SabbathMarch 19, 2005 Spring is re-birth, not recycling. We have the opportunity to invent, not rehash, to approach our true potential as humans rather than unfeeling, uncaring robots conditioned to consume and not save. If you were a parent bringing up the young today, what would your strategy be, your purpose, your goal? To teach frugality, honesty, morality, combat, ethics?Which and why? David Anthony Durham's "Pride of Carthage", about Hannibal and his brothers, richly brings the characters to life with imagined words and feelings of manwho hated the tyranny and power of Rome, and spent his life crafting its defeat. A writer has the opportunity to parent his characters long after historians have made their cases. I like the written word far better than the movies/TV, because it leaves room for imagination. It humanizes the characters without giving sympathy to inhumans like Hitler as TV would do. "God is in the hope God is in our love I've just begun to read "The Shadow of the Wind", by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, built around Barcelona in 1945. It is thus far one of the most beautifully written books, that treats human nature as human. It is storytelling at its finest and most enjoyable. It is magic in a world that looks for miracles but forgets the magic of what we are truly capable of becoming. "To have ideas is to gather flowers; to think is to weave them into garlands." (Swetchine) My TV is preoccupied with murder trials and celebrity eccentricities. It has lost its lust for truth and news, substituting personal foibles and cruelty unmatched by fiction. A new Gallup poll shows that nearly six out of ten Americans is uncomfortable with our moral and ethical climate, citing violence and sexual mis-conduct in movies and TV, racial prejudice, rampant divorce, and corporate scandals. How come only 60% when misdeeds and unethical behavior control political thought where pretentiousness substitutes for God's commandments. "If you see in a province, oppression of the poor and suppression of rights and justice, don't wonder at the fact; for one high official is protected by a higher one and both of them First there was animation--cute and colorful--fairy tale come to life. Then there was the electronic erasure of the line between reality and fantasy, converting to the world of Forest Gump. Fantasy has become thought mutated by money and corruption--for nothing corrupts more absolutely than absolute power. Reading is a habit that you must teach to your young or there is no future except the erasure of all truth. In reading there is a devotion to words rather than visualization of projections and digital fiction. Of course words can be propaganda, lies and distortions, but it does give the brain a chance to take time to think about the message or the narrative of the words; there is a possibility of thought defining what is and what is not. As the beauty of Easter and Passover approach once again, give thought to messages from God and His Children, as we interpret and search for the answers to "why?" Walk the Sabbath with light heart and wondrous thought, sharing all the love, oft hidden behind fear and well-spun political words sandy |
